About Cynthia

Cynthia Abatt is a Cambridge MA photographer with decades of experience in editorial photography and photojournalism. She worked in film photography before digital, and is a life-long Nikon devotee.

“I think of myself as a portrait photographer masquerading as an event photographer. That’s where people are most interesting to me, when they are themselves, engaged in something that matters to them, and I can be the casual observer and documentarian.”

She works exclusively on location, in available light.

Her clients include corporations, city governments and non-profits as well as individuals and small businesses.

“My objective is always to show the authenticity and humanity of a situation, and help the viewer connect with a world they may not have experienced themselves. Empathy and understanding are formed with connection.”

Other personal favorite subjects include Farmer’s Markets – “I just love nature’s inherent symmetry” – and “anywhere off the beaten path.”

In June of 2023, the National Council on aging (NCOA) chose these two photographs for award and display in their “Celebrating the Strength and Wisdom of Women” exhibit. Both images will be part of the permanent collection at the NCOA.

(R) “Commissioner Elow Reflects” – our own Cambridge Police Commissioner Christine Elow during a quiet moment at a recent Cambridge Veterans’ Services Veterans’ Day Observance.

In June of 2022, the photograph “About These Fingernails” was chosen for First Prize by the National Council on Aging (NCOA) for their Aging Well for All exhibit on caring and caregivers. About These Fingernails
